Announcer Changes

Hello, Listeners:

We continue to receive inquiries which typically begin with "What happened to....." followed by names such as Laura Carlo and Mark Calder.  Below is the explanatory letter which I posted on this site last Fall.  I hope that it answers your questions about our announcer lineup.  As always, thank you for listening to WBACH.

I'm taking this opportunity to explain the recent changes in our announcer lineup.  While you have heard Laura Carlo, Mark Calder, Larry King, Dave MacNeill and Listo Fisher on WBACH here in Maine, those announcers were actually in Massachusetts, as employees of Boston's Classical Station, WCRB.  Since both stations were, until recently, owned by the same company, Nassau Broadcasting, the WCRB announcers were also able to host some of WBACH's programming (and vice-versa....I also hosted on WCRB).  As you may already know, WCRB has now been acquired by Boston's non-commercial radio station, WGBH.  Because WCRB and WBACH are no longer co-owned, we do not have the rights to use the WCRB announcers on our air.  We wish them well in their future endeavors.

If that's the "bad" news, then we have lots of good news:  First, WBACH is continuing to broadcast the classical music that you've come to know and love over these many years.  Second, the programming is now being completely locally hosted:  Jay Lundstrom, Laurena "Reeny" Gilbert,  newcomer David Ezzy and I have worked together as a team for many years, and we look forward to presenting the music each day on WBACH.  Finally, WBACH is once again being locally programmed, after many years of duplicating WCRB's music schedule.

While we are sad to see our longtime Boston-area friends move on, we are excited about the future.  Thanks to the support of our Maine advertisers, and Maine (and beyond!) listeners, WBACH remains strong, and we look forward to providing quality classical music, both to Maine, via our 3 frequencies here,  and to the online community, via wbachradio.com

If you have any questions or comments about these developments, please feel free to express them by using the FEEDBACK link.  Thank you for your continued listening to, and support of, WBACH, Maine's Classical Network.

Sincerely.

Scott J. Hooper,

WBACH Program Director
